Specialty Feature: Neuroscience

In the world of commercial art, medical illustration is a specialized field. Within this field, however, there are a diverse range of different categories and disciplines: anatomy, cellular biology, botany, zoology, biotechnology, pharmacology, virology, and histology… The list is as inexhaustible as the field of science itself. With a series of special blogposts, we will celebrate several artists whose unique specializations help to cover this broad spectrum of subjects.

This week, Medical Illustration and Animation would like to highlight ten talented medical illustrators and studios working in the field of Neuroscience: Mesa StudiosCognition Studio, Oliver Burston, Chris Gralapp, Adam Questell, Peter Bollinger, AXS Studio, Tina Pavlatos, Scott Bodell, and Nanobot Medical Inc.

“I attended California College of the Arts, where I graduated with High Distinction in Drawing, and was one of five people accepted into the competitive UCSF Program in Medical and Biological Illustration, where I studied and practiced intensively to hone my skills. A year-long internship in the University of Cincinnati Medical Illustration Department gave me the real-world experience to charge ahead. A San Francisco Bay Area resident of beautiful Marin County, CA, I have operated my own successful biomedical illustration business, with emphasis on head and neck topics for academic applications, advertising, medical legal, multimedia and the medical device industry. I am a Certified Medical Illustrator, a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators, and a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.” ~ Chris Gralapp
