Since 1984, the Medical Illustration Sourcebook (aka “the Sourcebook” or “MISB”) has helped countless medical illustrators build and nurture their freelance careers.

Produced and marketed for the AMI by Serbin Communications, the original Sourcebook advertising concept has been transformed in recent years into a multi-platform print + web + social media marketing program for individual artists and companies specializing in the field of biomedical communication.

Earlier this year, Serbin and the AMI Sourcebook Editorial Board discussed the need to update the project’s name and branding to more accurately reflect the broader capabilities of participating advertisers and to meet the evolving needs of our highly specialized industry. Beginning with the September 2016 edition, the book will be titled MEDICAL ILLUSTRATION & ANIMATION: A complete guide to the world’s leading biomedical, life science & natural science artists.

The new name is a clarification for art buyers about the wider scope of work that is included in the both the annual publication and on the companion Medillsb.com.

In early 2017 Serbin Communications will launch an updated portfolio website with a responsive design and improved user interface. SCI also continues to grow the project’s social media platforms and actively promotes advertisers on the Medical Illustration blog and through regular e-blasts to a targeted, international subscriber list.
