I made the first piece below about a year and a half ago before going on a two month sabbatical. It’s the piece that started the layered silk and encaustic process I’ve been working in for over the last year.
Like many firsts, I believe it’s the most realized piece I have made; the integration of process, image, and object is at its strongest. I’m revisiting it and beginning to make it into a series. The other five pieces I’ve made over the last few days.
They’re all small: 6″ x 6″. I’m enjoying working at this scale again; there’s an intimacy and precision with the process. I feel like a jeweler. I keep on seeing symmetrical compositions in my mind. What I would like to achieve is motion within a symmetrical composition.
