The Medical Illustration & Animation Sourcebook is proud to highlight and feature the incredible cover work of Linda Nye for Transfusion Journal.

“Awesome, Fantastic, I love it, Perfect..!” This is the only feedback Linda receives for her Transfusion Journal cover work. She always nails the content. The level of trust is extraordinary, and fully earned. Her deep background in medicine, biology and physiology combined with her amazing design and illustration skills make each cover a genuine work of art.

Linda has been creating the covers for the Transfusion Journal, the official journal of the AABB – the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies – since 2018. Transfusion is a monthly peer-reviewed medical journal covering transfusion medicine presenting research concerning patient blood management, tissue transplantation, and hematopoietic, cellular, and gene therapies. The journal presents 12-16 research papers each month. The topics include cutting edge research affecting blood donation – blood diseases, cancers, therapies, etc.

What is remarkable about this ongoing assignment is that Linda gets to determine what to illustrate for each cover. The editor selects the research paper that he wants to feature on the cover. He then sends Linda the actual draft of the research and leaves her to decide what and how to illustrate. She chooses what to depict and the specific style of illustration. With only a month to work on it, she shows the editor what she has in mind just a couple of days before the printing deadline – which by then is an almost fully completed piece of art. Linda pours her heart into these pieces, with several of them being very personal to her, depicting diseases that have affected close friends of hers.

Linda’s illustrations are arguably the most beautiful, yet technically accurate, covers of any magazine or journal in medicine today. The readership loved them so much that Transfusion printed a poster of a full year’s worth of covers for the subscribers, which you can see and enjoy below.

Linda Nye has been providing technology visualization and animation for annual reports, books, journals, education materials, advertising, and the web pages for biomedical, pharmaceutical, computer, museum and aerospace clients for over 25 years.

As a member of the Association of Medical Illustrators and a member of the Society of Illustrators and Air Force Art Program, Linda has won many awards from the National Science Foundation, Communications Arts, Society of Illustrators, AMI, Print Magazine, and the Rx Club. She has served on numerous boards, including the Society of Illustrators and the International Aerospace Hall of Fame and her paintings have been exhibited internationally. She has lectured on visualization at Johns Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic.
