With the World Cup upon us I thought I’d discuss a commission we did last year for the soccer magazine Howler.
Robert Priest and Grace Lee came to us with a humor piece about the soccer shoe of the future. They wanted something ridiculous.
I put together a rough pencil sketch of possible technologies:

After editing the technologies we created our first 3D render:

It was missing something. So we added a fractal pattern that would distract the opposing team’s players:

Unfortunately, we rarely do humor pieces. This commission was a lot of fun; I enjoyed doing something loud and ridiculous.
