On the third floor of the Peabody Museum is an amazing treasure trove of bird specimens from all over CT and New England. After a lesson in avian anatomy in the classroom, my students had the opportunity to sketch from these taxidermy and 3D model painted birds. Their goal: to create a composite of various views of their bird of choice. They concentrated on passerines, small perching birds in the scientific order Passeriformes for their assignment.
Stay tuned for more from our natural illustrator students next week!
