Today’s aging population has had a profound effect on the healthcare industry, as the ‘new old’ enjoys greater vitality and longevity than previous generations. Many seniors want active retirements with travel, sports, and other activities that require them to work closely with their healthcare providers to maintain optimum health, flexibility, and strength. This cartoon features a retired couple dressed as superheroes towering over the healthcare system. The models I used for this illustration were a couple whom I’d met while white-water rafting in Alaska. Shirley and Larry have spent their retirement traveling the world and engaging in all sorts of outdoor activities, including several safaris in Africa. They are exactly the kind of people my hubby and I hope to emulate one day!
