201503 – personal projects

Finally got this half-done painting, well, done. The wet oil paint and not having a good rig for photographing made a rather bad photo of it. This is testing 2 things: 1.) Replicate the back-lit effect with a gold background I saw in England, and 2.) Keep trying to get that iridescent and shimmering look on a creature in a painting. Last time I tried using watercolor, this time I tried oil paint. It isn’t working very well yet. I think not only putting cold and warm color side-by-side without mixing, light on dark background, I will also have to use complimentary color for highlights. There is one more piece of wood with gold background so I’ll test it one last time. This gold is oil paint Renaissance Gold. The other one is 18k Gold spray paint (which re-dissolves when oil paint is applied onto it, especially with solvent in the paint).
A very beat-up, probably half-fossilized sea shell I’ve had collecting dust and baby spider webs forever.
